ATM Cards in Ireland

Travel Forums Europe ATM Cards in Ireland

My US bank recently changed their ATM affiliation from the CIRRUS network to one that includes NYCE, SHAZAM, and STAR networks. Can anyone let me know if these networks are acceptable at ATM machines in Ireland (particularly the Dublin area) or do I need to look for a new bank before my trip to Ireland? Someone suggested that the STAR network now includes what used to be CIRRUS. Any truth to that? I'd hate to accept that at face value and then find out that I had no access to an ATM machine with my current debit cards.

Thank you in advance.

Pat

Hi

I could be wrong, but Cirrus seems to be to Mastercard what Star is to Visa. I will have alook next time im at an atm(could be tonight!) and let you know if they are accepted

Clarife,

My current ATM is a Mastercard associated with the STAR network so it appears that STAR is not associated exclusively with VISA.

Can ATMs associated with the STAR network be accepted in most ATM machines in Ireland ? For some reason I thought that CIRRUS was the predominant network.

Hey,
I know that mastercard is accepted everywhere, but as for the atms i don't really know. I think that to be safe you'd be better off with a VISA card though, so no bad surprises when you are in Dublin as it is quite an expensive city...:)
