no .... men who opress women are not strict muslims .... they r just weird strict human beings who "think" they are muslims .... they have distorted opinion on Quran .... they dont know anything, when they walk around as religious scholars .... they just dont want women to do anything and take them as their possession ....
i DO NOT take those strict bear-clad men as muslims at all ...
my religion is very soft ... free for all .. and equity for all ...

Then it seems to me that a lot of people who believe they follow Islam have got it all wrong. In fact, it seems to me that the stronger their faith, the more wrong they are. Those societies that are strictly Islamic, well, they have it all wrong as well when it comes to treating women.

Seems to me that Islam is in crisis in this regard wouldn't you say?

Don't talk about something you really don't know a thing about, I should say. Because that is obviously the case with you;)

Why the heck would islam be in a crisis? Because of Osama or maybe because of Iraq or because of 9-11? One word to you extremism. Or abusing islam for achieving political goals. And that is bad but is not the real and religious islam.

Hello Hein and Isadora

My boyfriend is not interested in travelling. He only want to discuss the political topics here. He has no real interest in being a member, of a travel site.

Well, I thought I knew a fair bit about it, but you and fuchsinrot have told me even more about it and painted a picture worse than I thought it was.

Denial doesn't make a problem go away.

no no ... islam is in no crisis ... it really is just the basic understanding .... and of course the woman issue ... u can say ... is the most distorted ... and we are trying to break free of .... like recently a women's rights bill was passed in pakistan ... and we have gotten a lot of new liberations .... u dont see burka clad women ... we very well wear jeans and all that ... in fact ... if u were to come to my college .... u wudnt believe ur in an islamic state ,..... its all very different than how u may think ....
i mean ... c'mon! Oprah thinks we're at war!
we're not! a lot many ti mes it has happened that i talk to some foreigner online. .. and when they get to know m pakistani ... they're like ... arent u at war? oh my god u can speak english ... i mean ... it really isnt all that bad ... yes in under priviledged regions ... in villages etc, in tribal areas ... it is still pretty bad ....

I think religion is very important, we all need something to belief in (even if that belief is science) and a lot of religious practices are based on social conduct and if you remove the religious aspect it creates a vacuum that's got to be filled with something else.

We do not all need a religion, to believe in.
And are u sure there would be a vacuum, needing to be filled? Why would there?

Well, for a start there are religous scholars ("weird human beings")walking around who "dont want women to do anything and take them as their possession ....".

This came from fuchinsrot who is "living here ... i should know better than you ..."

I think James has almost drown in the sea of media. His vision of the islam is the vision of the Islamic extremist. That is no good, James:(
