Well, maybe it says it somewhere, but what happens in reality?
Not that it matters if there are witnesses or not. I dont think they should be cutting peoples hands off, at all.

I read a letter a guy sent to the Lonely Planet, to warn other travellers, to be careful, about reporting crimes, in certain countries.
He was in a hotel in Afganistan. He had left his money belt, in the safe, at the reception. When he got it back, there was some money missing. He asked the hotel guy, to give it back. The guy said he did not take it. The guy told the police, that his money had been stolen, at the hotel. The police arrested the hotel worker and took him and the guy to some place. The guy had to stand there helplessly, and watch the hotel workers hands being cut off, for stealing his money.
He said nothing about any witnesses.

I read the first 8 pages.. and than skipped towards here..
But I've seen the same docu, and i must say... wouter je overdrijft...
(you exaggerate)
It was quite clear that this docu was showing the extremes of the country, and that it was not saying that all were like that. (for example the home schooling part? last time i checked there are still enough public schools left?)

In holland if they would make a docu about the LPF and that idiot, what's his name... with the hair.. geert wilders, you would get the same kind of thing. If you would make a docu about politics and the CU, maybe it's even worse.

Of course, it showed something that I didn't know it was giving a warning, look religion play in some countries a larger role than they do in Holland. Because in Holland religion is a rather strange thing, as you well enough know.
Ow and by the way, I wouldn't say in ireland or so, or poland proudly that i'm an atheist. Or in rome :mrgeen:

So my question, why are you pretending not to know better when starting this topic? ;-)

Ow and by the way, (was reading a bit more) these arguments always remember me about a war when both sides shouted 'god is with us' but than in 2 different languages but in fact calling for the same god.
And of course, on both sides too many people got killed...

I wonder sometimes when that will happen again

one more question after having read 5 more pages here..
you talk about politics and religion, but if you want power isn't the easiest thing to use religion? If you can say, well i'm right because god says so and he choose me, I cannot think about any other reason to go over that argument. The kings in the history used the same idea, I'm great and i'm the son of god, i have the message from god! etc etc.

As long as you get huge amounts of people listening to you, which gives you more power, I would opt for religion. I even have been thinking of starting a new religion myself, in order to get world domination. But that also sounds so boring.
But I don't think that the core compentent of religion has much to do with the golden ornaments in the vatican, or with the armies of the vatican of the past. (or the palace of the louis the 14th) I think that has to with power, and that religion is used for that power.

Religion and politics is a dangerous combination. it happens in fundamental islamic groups. and I think this tendency is appearing in USA with the evangelicals as well (with 80 million fundamental christians and probably growing). I want to state that there is not only fundementalism in islam. the media is only targeting the muslims for being aggresive and not the fundamental christians (its a good thing to see the other side, in this documentary). we are ignoring the danger of christian fundamentalists. after the terrorist attacks in New York, London, Rome its not weird that christians get extreme ideas. they start thinking that islam is an evil religion and christianity is the only true faith, its not all different from fundamental islamists. what will happen at the end? war between religions? But I have said this all before!!!;)

what will happen at the end?

In the end Capitalism will fail, just as communism did, because the system is corrupted.

In the end, we need to get along with eachother, but we also have to pay the penalty for robbing our former colonies, from the wealth those countries had to offer. (materials and persons).

In the end, the person who will prove that God doesn't excist, will be crucified.

In the end, the sun will become a supernova, and swallow up the earth, if we haven't found a save harbour, somewhere in the Galaxy, this will be the end ... Well in fact it is not the end, because the universe will continue, only without humans, and maybe than it will become a better place. (and maybe then God needs a new toy, an improved version: Earth 2.0., or maybe this is already Earth 14.0, and still doesn't get it right !!!), or maybe it's time to go to sleep - goodnight everybody (the Europeans and Africans at least)

Actually, there's an excellent (fictional) book I've read on mankind's escape from an ever increasing polluted and dangerous planet. It's called "The Dream Millenium" by James White.

I dont know, if there is an answer for this or not, but I will ask in case u have an opinion on it.
How many more years, do u think humans will last, on the earth, with the way we are going?

270. Posted by Herr Bert (Moderator 1384 posts) 9y

Of course there no answer to that, but humans have always been very flexible creatures, that can adapt to new circumstances easier than other species.

If we wait for the sun to blow up, we have 5.000.000.000 years to go. That would be the max, but it would be more likely that homo sapiens, would evolve in a different kind of humans, before that time, a few times.
