Hi, I am 18, planning to go to south america early 2008. I had originally planned to travel with an overland firm as i am travelling alone, although it is expensive and having read these comments no the best way to go about it. I was wondering whether i would face any major difficulties travelling from quito to santiago and then buenos aires on my own over about 3 months. I plan to spend about a month in ecuador learning spanish on the coast and surfing although after this i have no real itinery. Is it feasible to go skiing in Argentina in june? I hope to meet other travellers as i trave, do many travellers do this route. I am just wondering how i would go abou this journey with only a backpack. My budget is about £3000 for the three month journey. Is this a good idea and would i be able to see everything i wanted to see, or should i do it with overland?
Thanks for your help

I'm afraid I don't get your post; you plan on going overland, or flying? For various reasons, I strongly recommend doing this stretch by bus. I don't expect you'd run into difficulties; however, keep an eye on the political situation in Ecuador which is a bit volatile from what I last heard.

3 months (or 2) is sufficient to get from Quito to Santiago, although you won't have that much time for detours. Not that that's a problem; there's plenty to be seen on the way south.

Skiing in Argentina (las leñas!! MUCH better than Bariloche) is feasible, although the season is slightly unpredictable.

If you have more specific questions, don't hesitate to ask.

Ah, I see. You can safely go solo.
