If you want to see more than just the salt flats, so also visiting some of the coloured lakes and altiplano desert, I would definitely choose to stay 3 days. Uyuni itself hasn't much to offer by the way.

I went in late July and whatever you do, take thermals and a thick sleeping bag.... it was absolutely FREEZING overnight!

Yep, i second Koala Girl. I did it in February and it was like SIBERIA at nighttime. So so cold. I was very glad of my super-sexy thermal long johns and vest

...cos we all look sexy in thermals! In my experience, yep, I'd take the thermals. I think I wore mine under my pants, wrapped myself in a blanket inside the sleeping bag and I was still cold after dark....
