I am planning a road (car) trip in Kerala for around 3-4 days... Could anyone please suggest an itinerary? I do know the place a bit but am basically looking forward to enjoyable drives along with places to see and things to do... Thank you in advance.
If you are starting from Trivandrum, why not start with some city sightseeing (Kuthiramalika Palace and the adjacent famous temple), a half-hour up-north close to Varkala is the ashram of the former social reformer of Kerala, Sree Narayana Guru, which continues to be a pilgrimage point of most Keralites.
Then you could drive south towards Kovalam and perhaps a bit further south to less touristy beaches and also visit Padmanabhapuram Palace and Kanyakumari.
Though I didn't get to visit Ponmudi, it was highly recommended as well.
Hey thanks a lot Ahila... Could you give me some estimate as to how long this may take??
From Kovalam beach, a one day trip can be made to Padmanabhapuram palace. For Ponmudi, it might be nicer to stay overnight there but it also takes about 3 hours from Kovalam.
For Varkala, you could stay close to the beach and visit the pilgrimage site and also Trivandrum.
Easy to fit the above in 3-4 days.
Thank you for that information.. Will definitely keep that in mind while I plan the trip..
Drive up to Ashtamundi to take in some beautiful early morning photographic opportunities on the lake.
Drive from there to Periyar Tiger reserve, stay in Lake Palace (wonderful place and staff), try to arrange to stay a day in Gavi (deep in the Jungle).
hope that helps
In 3-4 days there are a couple of places you can visit in Kerala by road -
Alleppey/Kumarakom - Munnar - Periyar. Start from Kochi - drive down to Alleppey- take the houseboat to Kumarakom - drive to thekkady - spend a night in one of the resorts/hotels - drive up to Munnar - stay in Munnar - and drive back to Kochi.
Another sector you can do is the Wayanad stretch. Start from Calicut and drive around Wayanad, explore Vythiri, Kalpetta. Wayand is dotted with many interesting resorts.
If you want information on resorts and hotels in Wayanad, Munnar, Kumarakom etc. go to -snip-. You can read some good reviews by travellers on resorts that they have stayed in.
Hope this is useful

I just returned from a trip of Kerala.. i concentrated on the triangle of munnar, alleppy and Thekkady...It was a wonderful trip and we enjoyed it thoroughly. Each of the three places had a unique characteristic of its own....a hill station, a wildlife sanctuary and a backwater town. i would recommend everybody to explore the golden triangle of Kerala..
bye n regards
