A double notification consists of receiving 2 e-mail notifications for a single posting in a thread to which you have subscribed. I'm subscribed to your politics and travel thread in GT and was receiving 2 notifications each time someone posted. In theory, it was impossible for that to happen, in reality it happened.

Try this to stop receiving two e-mails... Just have one browser window open. Unsubscribe from the thread. After unsubscribing, the page will still say you are subscribed. Now you just wait for someone else to post (you won't be notified of your own postings) and see if that stops the duplicate. If not - go back and unsubscribe a second time so the link says "subscribe to this thread". Once you are completely unsubscribed, go ahead and resubscribe. You should only receive one notification from then on.

It worked for me just unsubscribing the first time and did not need to unsubscribe completely to eliminate the duplicate. Sorry if it sounds confusing, it's really not. ;)

I sometimes get more than one notification, for my private mails.
Maybe, I have 2 browser windows open, when this happens.

in normal email...like using Microsoft Outlook it can happen were you send an email and the recipient receives it twice...and this happens when you only click on the 'send' button once. and when you look at your sent items only one email has been sent.

its a known...feature that sometimes happen:)

obviously with TP i imagine similar processes are used.

That's the going theory for the doubled subscription notices for threads also.

Actually, just to clarify what exactly happens here.

User A has two windows open. In each window the same forum thread. In each window the user posts and/or subscribes to that forum thread without realizing they just did this in another window. This is the only way you can end up being subscribed twice to a forum thread as if you view the thread after subscribing the link normally says 'UNsubscribe ...'. The reason it's possible is that the user has hit subscribe without refreshing that particular window first. It's a small bug as of course we sh/could run a check each time someone subscribes, but it's very very rare (although with Tabbed browsing on the up, it will probably increase the likelihood of this happening)

This should not be able to happen for private mail notifications (in case you mean private mail sent through Travellerspoint that is) as you do not subscribe to one set of PM's, but have it set for your mailbox as a whole. Unless of course you were actually sent two PM's :)
