jimmyj has indicated that this thread is about Guatemala

Hey,

I am heading to Central America in April 2007. I will be in Guatemala for 3-4 weeks doing a spanish course, not sure quite where yet but I was drawn to Lake Atitlan, was thinking the beautiful surroundings would be a perfect place to study. Is anybody out there doing anything similar?? I am travelling alone but thought it would be cool to meet up with other people and share the experience.

Hasta Luego

AJ

Unfortunately I'm not living there, but lake Atitlan is absolutely beautiful and its surrounding villages fascinating.
As far as Spanish classes are concerned, remember that you will be learning Central American Spanish. Compare it to the difference between England's English and the USA English.

Saludos AJ.

I've not heard of schools in the lake region. I studied in Antigua, Xela (Quetzaltenango) and the small town of Todos Santos. Antigua is the best place to meet people and it's not too far from Atitlan. Todos Santos is another experience altogether. Far more primitive and incredibly memorable. But the town does not have the tourist ambience of Antigua. For a social life, Antigua. For the indigenous experience, try a week in Todos Santos. Xela you can cross off your list (others may feel differently) although it is there you will find the school that has a branch in Todos Santos.
