... Out of curiosity, is there any way of finding out at anytime who has which title? Obviously i can search for individual members, but trying to work out who is what at specific times can be tricky, especially with some people periodically changing user names just to confuse me!

In a kind of long round about way, i came about the idea of having an automatic overview page/list. Thus:

Admin: .....
Mods: ..... (with relevant forum listed by each name, and, potentially, individual bribery requirements)
[ideally, the names would also be made interactive, taking you to their profiles]
Guru's: (probably an alphabetical comma seperated text string)
Respected Members: (probably an alphabetical comma seperated text string)

Then list the other ranks in order, but with a simple tally of number in that category in it.

The Gurus, respected members and list of numbers in the lower categories could be updated automatically as they change (or perhaps more bandwidth friendly, once a day) to keep it up to date and so it's easier to work out who is who.

Potentially, a list of, say, the top 10 posters (or similar) in terms of number of posts could also be added. In addition, you could have stuff like links to the blogs/pages about "who is behind TP?" and "How did it come about?" and "just how many more of these flippin Daams brothers are there?" plus the rules/regulations.

I've been toying with the concept/problem for a while, but never got around to formulating a proper idea or chucking it out for people to comment on. Basically, i peridically come across Guru's/Respected members/mods (in one case) or people with lots of posts who i've never even heard of, which makes me feel just a tad sheepish! Having an overview page would help me keep track!

I promise I'm the last brother! Though there are offspring now, so who knows how long before they start climbing the TP ranks.:) Perhaps we'll see Miles fervently posting in the forums and becoming the youngest-ever Travel Guru.

I like your idea, but that's probably just because I like lists:)

And on a slightly related note, how about listing peoples previous user names so we can keep up with who's who..?

Yup, Purdy, that's exactly what I was trying and failing miserably at saying. But at least someone understood me.

And how about listing people's real names (or at least telling those that sign up that their login name will appear on every post they write and their real name, never?

Yeah, and why not people's blood type, shoe size and favourite sandwich while we're at it

Seriously. I'm with angela_ in that I'm losing track of who is (or was) whom.

The (bullshit) artist previously known as "james"

Good idea, seeing as it would also make sense to have moderators listed somewhere properly and it should be relatively straightforward.

The tracking of the previous usernames, although something I'd also really like to see, is unfortunately not possible as the new one overwrites the old one.

Kevin, there's a link to each members profile page with every post they make and that of course includes peoples real name (if supplied).
