Eastern Europe would be interesting - I've heard it is what 20pence for a beer and 70pence for a burger or similar am I right? However it is a bit hard to get there if you live in the USA or Canada or thereabouts I would imagine. Maybe have two - one in the East and another in the West
Oh and in Brussels the bars don't really have a closing hour...they just close when there are no more people...
yep, the beer is really cheap in Prague, I loved it when i was there , if you move further into the countryside it gets even cheaper.......
If we were to be fair to all members we would have to organise multiple parties, you're right it wouldn't be very cheap to fly from outside Europe into a major city and then onto a smaller one.......
I was in Brussels last year for two days and I found the bars to be great as well.......... emmmm I should stop this I'm going to sound like an alcoholic......
Let's have three! Another one in Asia. If you look at the Asia forums we are actually already planning to have a Malaysian TP Members Get Together in Kuala Lumpur.
Montreal isn't that expensive at all. You can stay at reasonably cheap hostels and budget hotels near the centre of the city, and as long as you don't eat out at the chic restos every night, you'll be ok And I don't have a canoe Rich, but I'm sure we can make you a nice raft
The south of France would be great! I really enjoyed Nice when I was there....we can all buy some cheap French wine and sit on the pebble beach for hours....
As for Prague, I don't think I'd be able to go because Canadians have to get a visa to go there (as of the last time I checked anyways) and that's a whole lot of paper work!
I'm up for it... anywhere is good, although anywhere in the UK is better for me... Just would have to have the dates ahead of time to try and get time off work to do it.
Are you a big black man with a mowhawk?
I don't know if you had the television show "The A Team" over in Europe back in the 80s, but it was big here for a while. One of the stars was Mr. T.
He didn't like flying so the rest of the A Team would always have to drug him or trick him in some way to get him to fly with them to the next mission... Now I'm wondering if Mr. T was actually Welsh and became a cartographer after the show ended?
I think I may be on to something.
hee hee Ian! "I pity the fool" who doesn't like TP!
I don´t have much time and just rapidly read through this... It´s crazy!
here´s my input... If we do a get together this summer somewhere in europe preferably Barcelona (i´m basically there AND it´s a really cool city and the bars basically don´t close...) But you do have to watch out for the cost of beer.
If we do it anytime after August I´ll hold a get together in New Ulm, Minnesota and if anyone else has ever heard of the place they can join me
Hmmm, New Ulm (Minnesota) wouldn't work too well for me, but Neu Ulm (Germany) would be a possibility - could even do simultaneous-ish New/Neu Ulm meetups!
Katie - you will no doubt be delighted to know that as of May 1, you don't need Czech visa's anymore . Most of the new EU countries dropped there reguirments from that date. Btw, i'm doing my join several thgread thing here, but i suppose i could make the raft/canoe out of duct tape.......
Ian - I could'nt possibly comment on your theory, and will not confirm or deny anything.
Bruxelles would work for me as i pass through more or less weekly, so can easily arrange a stop over. Prague great and still cheap, but nowhere near as cheap as it used to be (i.e. 3 years ago), and many places now refuse entrance to big groups of english speaking people due to problems with stag/hen parties. Depending on time frame, cheap accom in summer can be hard to find. Elsewhere in CZ is good, and cheaper. I love Barcelona, so wouldn't object, although as Leah says, price can add up. Budapest great - Beer averages about gbp 1 - 1.10, although we found (more local) places as low as 9pence... In Buda/Prague/Wien etc, bars rarely close anyway - was in Buda a couple for months ago, and we only left the one bar one night (ahem) at a bit after 8am. Elsewhere in E Europe cheaper when there, but more expensive to get to as lack of Eurail coverage and no/few low frills operators thus far. Southern France somewhere would be a possibility.
