Good God - my wee issues are minor compared to yours!! Im just moaning - we will go away next weekend - l just miss out on a weekends shopping (NOT the end of the world and by bank balance will be grateful for it!) & we have to pay a fine - its not going to send us bankrupt its just annoying!

I should stop being so doom and gloom! Right you've made me buck myself up!

Quoting Purdy

As much as l am inclined to go with your option 3 James l think aharrold45 says about we COULD be refused entry again etc etc is on my mind and lm such a good wee citizen that l never get into trouble with the law! So we will just cough up and moan about it for about 4 weeks!

Oh another wonderful thing has happened - l booked an overnight trip in the Hilton Dublin for next weekend for us - thinking be nice wee suprise - Paul then mentions he has to fly to Heathrow on Sunday as he has a conference starting at 9am on Monday morning! I cant cancel the booking - it was a pay in advance cheaper rate! Now the weekend will be cut short and l wanted to go shopping on Sunday too! Oh l should just go to bed and pull the duvet over my head and stay there till Monday!

That's alright; I'll join ya! Ya wee money won't be wasted - I'll make sure of that

Ive had two speeding fines since I got to NZ and I dont even own a car here! Its crazy how tough they are - there are speed cameras everywhere.

Both times I have been caught have been for just a few kms over the speed limit. Both times the fines were sent to my home address in Ireland(I hired rental cars - credit card was in my name). I dont even know for sure it was me speeding or one of the other drivers!

First fine was $170NZ and the second was 80$NZ. Ouch!

Better to pay though because my brother and his friend have ignored several warnings about a speeding offence in Switzerland adn the Swiss are still after them and have evene summoned them to a court appearance! LOL.
I dont think they'll be allowed back in there again.

Its good to see lm the not the only one in this boat!!

Although your post fills me with dread! Our speeding fine in Oz was for 28th Dec and it only arrived on Friday 9th Feb. We were in NZ from 4th - 20th Jan - so there's still plenty of time for speeding fines to arrive in for NZ - although we did drive slower on the NZ roads mostly cos the roads were so windy!

Simply complete a statutory declaration stating that you weren't the driver at the time - there was a group of you sharing the driving. Then write some bullshit name and ridiculous address and state that this fictituous person was the real driver.

How about this?

Some crap like that should do it.

throw it in the bin and just say you moved house or something.

in europe they are clamping down on this, my father used to drive around with a german reg bmw for years in ireland and parked on yellow lines), speed everything because back a few years ago police would spend more time doing the paper work, hassle, and the fact someone is in another country refused to pay.

i got a council tax bill in the uk for £300 that i owe them (but i dont), i aint going to pay! i got the odd letter from solicitors and thats about it. i just they spelled my surname wrong (THAT) in itself means it is not me. im told if one letter is spelled wrong in your name then it isnt you!

i wouldnt pay! and im sure they dont expect you in australia to pay.

plus if you were summond to course and a actual police officer has to deliver a letter to you in person! or to someone in the same house hold as you!

i also thought since it is a rented car that the police would have went to the car rental company, and the car rental company to bill if you didnt pay the car rental company then they would just charge it to your visa car...same process if you crash a rental car...?

They went to the rental car company for my address and then sent the fine directly to my home address.

I have paid both of them. Myabe I shouldnt have bothered, but I'd like to come back to NZ again some day :)
