I am planning to go to Canada this August. Probably I will spend one week over there. I will fly to toronto first. I am thinking of driving to Montreal or further east such as Prince Edward Island. However, i don't how long it takes to get there by car. Any travelling idea regarding that area is welcome.
Toronto-Montréal by car it's about 5 to 6 hours driving.
Montréal-QUébec City: 2h30 to 3 hours.
Montréal-Prince Edward island: minimum 12 hours! But great drive at some places with nice views over St-Lawrence River.
If you like camping, at Prince Edward Island there's Cavendish: National Park with campsite along a beach with infinite ocean in front of you.
Have a nice trip!
Welcome to TP Nicole!
Let me just say that you're going to love it here in good ole Canada Also, if you have a few extra hours, I say stop off in Ottawa, which is in between Toronto and Montreal. The Rideau Canal is beautiful in the summer, and, if you like politics, a stop by the Canadian parliment is interesting as well (even though most Canadians in the area visited there when they were in elementary school, lol). The Byward Market is also very cute. You can stay there for a day and then drive to Montreal for some of the great nightlife here (about 1 hr, 1 1/2 away, depending on how fast you drive!).
In addition to the National Park on PEI, there are numerous very nice provincial parks that are worth your while.
Thank you all!! I love travelling. I always joke with my friends that the first thing I would do is to travel around the world for a year if I won the lottery. One day, maybe.
Thank you for the ideas. Looks like Montreal and Ottawa are two must-go cities. After a second thought, it might be too much driving to PEI. But my husband definitely like natural scenary and he loves photography. Hope this trip can also diversifies our gallery. You are welcome to visit there: www.photozo.com. Any suggestions of national parks along the way.
i've been to montreal two years ago and i went from montreal to pei and further to halifax and back by coach. 12 hours from montreal to pei is not enough!
but an option might be charlevoix in quebec - westside of st lawrence river or the gaspesie (rocher perce) on the eastside. there you could as well follow the more or less famous lighthouse route which is definitely something for your husband when he likes photography!
have a nice trip!
Thank you very much for your idea. I checked out the place around Quebec. It looks pretty nice, quite different from the states. Looks like I need to catch up some French this month.
Thank you all.
Nicole: I also recommend going to the Laurentians (or the Laurentides, in French), which is a mountain range just north of Montreal. It is very beautiful in the summer (well, any season really!). There are little towns up in the area such as St. Sauver and Mont Tremblant that are cute, and if you go up on any of the mountains, the view is spectacular! Here is the Laurentian's official website: http://www.laurentides.com/anglais/portrait/index.html
