I am interested in volunteering abroad for about 4 to 8 weeks in healthcare. I will be entering into a nursing program next year, but as of now I don't have any experience in the field. Can anyone recommend some reputable programs that are affordable?

- try the international program of the American Red Cross. Note though that 4 weeks is not much. (by the time you get acquainted with the situation, get a routine in the job,...). Unless if you are really specialized in your field and can be plug-and-play. I started as an international volunteer for the international federation of red cross (IFRC.ORG), doing 2-3 months missions, several per year... Soon I ended up doing it full time, as i loved it so much...

- unv.org is an organisation listing international voluneers applying for a temp job in UN organisations. have a look at their web. post your resumee...

- look for websites of international humanitarian organisations. Often they look for volunteers on a short term basis.. Look for Oxfam, Care, Save the Children, MSF (doctors without borders), to name a few.

(as an inspiration about life as an international humanitarian worker, have a look at my shortstories on -snip-)

wishing you luck,

Thank you so much for the great information. I feel like there are so many volunteer opportunities out there that it's nice to have some help on narrowing them down. I will give these websites a shot.
