I will be going to Melbourne, and I read that the only way to get to the airport is to use the Skybus. Does the skybus go right into the city, or I have to change to the train system somewhere along the line, something like tha Hong Kong's system?
I have checked out the skybus website and they said that I can purchase the return ticket on skybus from the website on a cheaper price. Is that worth it?
Yeah the only way is by skybus or taxi. The taxi is an expensive alternative. If you are staying at a hotel or hostel they will be able to drop you off directly there. It can take awhile depending how full the bus is and how many stops they make before you are dropped off. Then you can buy a ticket to use the metro system which is the trains, trams, and buses. I never booked a ticket through the website but if it saves you a few dollars then I dont see why you should not.
The skybus will bring you to Spencer street station, which is on the west side of the Melbourne central business district. (So: downtown, but not really close to any hotels/hostels that I can think of.) I think every single train line goes through it, though, and a number of trams stop in front of it, so it's very convenient to travel the last leg from there.

Sander thanks for the update. It has been some time since I have been in Melbourne. One thing to note is that public transport in melbourne stops somewhere around midnight. So depending on what time you arive you should take that into consideration.
