The obvious trip would be to go to Agra to see the Taj Mahal.

Another couple of things that would not be day trips, but would be worth doing is going From Delhi-Haridwar by train (no need for AC or anything like that for such a short journey). Then once you reach Haridwar you could either stay a couple of days there to check the place out before heading to Rishikesh, or get the bus straight from Haridwar-Rishikesh and then on the way back make a day or two for Haridwar.

Have a great trip.

Delhi itself has a lot to offer. redfort, jameh masjid mosque, old delhi bazar (chandni chowk), india gate, connaught place, mehrauli archeological park with the qutab minar (UNESCO monument), nizamuddin complex, humayuns tombe....look it up on google!!!

Delhi is interesting and fascinating. u will easily get around. there is a metro system since two years which is very efficient. autoricksaws are everywhere but you need to bargain hard. connaught place has a lot of very good restaurants and coffeehouses (Barista, cafe coffee day). enjoy delhi, its not dodgy.

For art, do visit the National Art Gallery. I was highly recommended this place but unfortunately, I didn't have the time to visit.

For books, try out the Sunday book bazaar at least for fun. It's in the Old Delhi area. Ask your friends about it and they will probably take you there.

For cultural events, the Indian Habitat Center (google it) has a good film club and eating place and there is often some event or other being arranged there. Maybe you will find something of interest there. Or, check out the following web on Upcoming Events in Delhi, along with time and venue.

For short trips out of Delhi, Sikandara (Emperor Akbar's resting place), Fatehpur Sikri (Emperor Akbar's second capital) and Taj Mahal can be visited in two days. Maybe you might think of visiting Jaipur for a couple of days.

I think you will have enough to do and see in Delhi itself. It is a fascinating city.

Have fun! ;)

In 3.5 weeks you´ll have time to to visit many places. I recommend to visit some temples (Krishna, Kali..), beautiful Lotus Temple (looks a bit like a Sydney opera house ;) ), Delhi´s modern art callery (near the India gate).
Also you could take some small trips from Delhi to Jaipur, Agra.. there are many daytours, also buses and trains runs a lot. I really prefer Jaipur cos it is not very "modern" yet and the athmosphere is really indian..
In Old Delhi there is a really big islam mosque where many people want to visit also.

THE SUNDAY BOOK BAZAAR IS AT DARYAGANJ. YOU CAN WALK DOWN FROM THERE TO JUMMA MASJID TO HAVE AUTHENTIC MUGHLAI CUISINE AT KARIM'S. IF YOU ARE TRAVELLING IN FEB-MAR TAKE A COUPLE OF DAYS TO VISIT KEOLADEO GHANA NEAR BHARATPUR FOR BIRDS [ FITS IN NICELY WITH AGRA-JAIPUR-F.SIKRI]. RANTHAMBHOR NP IS GOOD FOR TIGERS. A SORTIE NORTH TO SHIMLA/KASAULI WILL BE GOOD FOR A FADING GLIMPSE OF THE RAJ DAYS.
