Where is the centre of Europe?

Today, there is still a debate about exactly where the centre of Europe is...there are at least a dozen places that claim this title. Does anyone know the answer to this?

What I do know is that there is young family who is taking a venture to find the answer on a 3 week trip around Europe in a Land Rover using a Navman to guide them there. With the hope to find the true answer, the family (Justin Leighton and co) will be posting regular blogs and photos with any discoveries they find along the way -SNIP- In the meantime, I would love to hear any thoughts about where the centre of Europe is today...

so the center of europe lies in Poland on the same horizontal (laditure) line as stockholm sweden and the same horizontal (longitude) line as Warsaw, poland...

that is my guess... and sorry i always messed up longtitude and laditude..

Here's the answer:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographical_centre_of_Europe

I don't know if this helps or makes things even more confusing.
...

Some weeks ago I saw on TV that, after tha last EU enlargement -Romania, Bulgaria- the geographic center of the EU had moved 115 Km. to Gelnhausen, Germany.

Many people would say that Brussels is also the center of EU. I guess its a question of tastes.

I loosly call countries like Germany and a few of its neighbours Central Europe.
I have never yet had a reason, to find out exactly where the centre point of Europe is. :)

The answer is simple : there is no center in Europe !
Rome, Athens, Paris, London, Berlin, Strasbourg and Brussel can be considered as the center of Europe.
- Athens during the Antiquity
- Rome during the Roman Empire
- Paris and London during the 20th centuary
- Strasbourg and Brussel for Europe.

All this city is wonderful.
Enjoy them...

Quoting Herr Bert

Do you start to measure at the North cape in Norway or on Svalbard ???

Or Tahiti, French Guyana or the British Indian Ocean Territory?

Its also a question of perspective. Austria, Germany, Switzeland can be considered 'northern countries' for a spanish. For a norwegian they probably are 'southern countries'.
