Looking to do some island hopping for a couple of weeks and cannot decide between turkey and greece. obviously there is a lot of info available on greece but not much on turkey. budget is a concern and am happy to stay away from the crowds. is september or october a better time to go?
I am guessing slightly, but I would imagine Greece would be a better bet for a couple of weeks, as the ferry options would be greater - not sure how well the many small islands of the Turkish coast are linked to each other. If you plan well, you should be able to find some cheaper islands.
Personally I think September is a fantastic time to go - it's not unbearably hot, but the sea has warmed up a bit and not yet cooled down making it comfortable for swimming, and it's not as busy as July-August making it cheaper and less crowded.
Definitely Greece, simply because Turkey hasn't got good possiblities of island hopping. A sailing trip along the turkish coast is nice though.
It's a perfect time, try september, october can be much cooler if you are unlucky.
When I saw the title, I thought I have to say turkey because the people are friendlier in general. But unfortunately that doesn't apply to the coastal areas.
Your title is a bit misleading, for several weeks to spend in september I would say immediately Turkey but for island hopping it is Greece.
Island hopping possibilities in turkey is not comparable with greece, but for any other kind of holiday in september the southwest coast is a paradise!
island hopping is not an absolute must but along with a bit of sight seeing i am definitely looking to for some beach / sail / sun / beer action away from the masses for 2 or 3 weeks (will need some relaxation after south america trip). would actually prefer turkey as it sounds like something different and probably a bit easier on the wallet but greek islands is obviously a safer bet. looking for some advice on whats happening in turkey and where to go. any feedback much appreciated
The problem is that you want to get away from the masses. Greece and Turkish coastlines are the centre of european masses...well, almost.
But you better go to Greece for partying and beaching, the people just don't keep harrassing you when you walk on the streets the next day with your hangover
sorry when i say masses i mean tourists
