I will be in Boston in August and wish to make a 3-4 day trip to Cape Cod.
I was thinking of spending one day in Provincetown and maybe 2 days day in either Marthas Vineyard or Nantucket.
Since I cant visit both, which of the two is worth visiting. Activities I would like to participate in are mainly kayaking and maybe a bit of fishing. I understand that Nantucket is quieter but that there is a lot more to do in marthas vineyard.
I've been to Nantucket, and I would definitely say it is quiet, although I can't compare it to Martha's Vineyard (b/c I haven't ever been). I would suggest it to people though because the beaches are beautiful and not too crowded, and there are definitely a lot of good fishing spots. I don't fish myself but we did definitely see plenty of people fishing. Don't know much about the kayaking situation in Nantucket though.
I know them both intimately. I would recommend hanging on the Vine if you only have a day to kill on one or the other. Day parking for a vehicle is less expensive to Martha's (don't plan on ferrying vehicle unless booked well in advance, taking a motorcycle, or independantly wealthy), a velo rented on the Vine at de-port will 'get' you to more places quicker (greater variety - that hill out of town is a killer however), in my opinion -just my opinion, Marta has less 'airs' than the other, it is easier to book into the hostel (tell them Gary sent you).
