Hi!

We're trying to decide where to go on holiday in May and have been eyeing up Cuba, but also wanted to try and take in some other places.

Maybe fly to Nausau in the Bahamas, spend some time there, jump across to Cuba for some more time and then somewhere else?

Anyone done anything similar or got any better ideas?

Driving me mad trying to decide where to go! :O

i don't know anyone personally who has "backpacked" around the caribbean, but it certainly sounds like an interesting idea! i think it really depends on your budget. i'm not sure if you can travel by ferry from island to island, so your expenses may go up quickly if you are taking numerous flights...

perhaps you could explore all of the bahamian islands? i've been to nassau, and it's nice, but i think it would be fun to explore some of the more remote places...

i personally like puerto rico. there are beautiful beaches and the rainforest (el yunque) is gorgeous! plenty of opportunity to hike and swim in waterfalls :)

I would suggest you look at St Vincent and the Grenadines. There is a ferry and a mailboat out of St Vincent that is about $8. US to go to Canouan, Union and Mayreau all of which are unique and lovely. Like the Caribbean 20 yrs ago! No cruise ship crowds or souvenier shops. You can also travel to the island of Bequia by ferry.
