Travel Forums General Talk Volunteering

Hi guys, I'm quite keen to do some volunteering while I'm away travelling, but I'd rather sort it out while I'm away and in the country, companies etc over here seem to charge alot of money. Does anyone have an experiences of organising volunteering in their chosen country rather than England, if so what was it and where? My itinerary is South Africa, Argentina, Brazil, Peru, Mexico, U.S.A. Tahiti, New Zealand, Australia, Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia.

I guess South America would probably be my ideal place.

Thanks for any help.

Hello Kyebrown

U could try the following childrens home, near the Burma border.
They charge 120 baht per day, to volunteers. I presume this includes accomodation and 3 meals a day. At least the flyer I picked up, in Thailand gives me the impression it does.
Here is a link for it.
and u can email Lindsay to ask any questions.
I will private mail her email address to u.

Cheers guys,

both posts have been very helpful, these seem much better than paying a fortune here to "volunteer"

please keep the suggestions rolling in, I have no time scale for my trip so could end up doing it all!

Hi Kye

Not the same sort of philanthropic volunteering perhaps, but we enjoyed working on organic farms in australia and tasmania - one flower farm in the rainforest (own tropical waterfall), and one berry farm a stones throw from the Tasmanian wilderness.
