Get yourself a Nationwide account and ATM card. They do not charge for international withdrawals and I have found this a great way to travel. I have got some emergency TCs but have only had to change some twice in 5 months!!! Travellers cheques...get visa or American Express and yes, you do need US Dollar. I didn't bring any currency... Most places have an ATMs in Thailand & Peninsular Malaysia. Can't comment on Indonesia as haven't been and it depends where you are going in India...

Hi Stoaway, you might have a little difficulty with atm cards in Indonesia depending on where you go. In Bali, Jakarta, and the other big cities it's not a problem, but if you're planning on going somewhere a bit more rural, remember to withdraw money ahead of time.
