Travel Forums Asia Suggestions for Short Term Travel to India (solo female)??

Hi There...
I have never been to India and I was tenatively planning a trip there this summer.
Is it worth it to go if I only have 3 weeks to a month?
If I only have 3 weeks to a month, is the month of May or late July-August a good time to travel?

Also, what do folks think about a female traveling to india by herself for a month?

Thank you! I look forward to a response.

Both are hot months in India, until and unless you are travelling amongst the mountainous region.

In late October, Delhi, Rajasthan and Agra was still hot though bearable and was told that nov/ dec would be the ideal months to travel about.

Three weeks is fine. It depends on your itinerary though. As long as you don't pack too much into your three weeks and allow yourself time to get about places, rest and enjoy the place before you move on, it is fine. I went last on a three day trip (and focused only on Kovalam, Kerala) but it was so much fun. I think it would be a good idea to decide what interests you about India and then plan your itinerary accordingly. See some of the former threads on India travel under Asia forum and you might get a better idea.

late july august is anyday better than May- May is when summer peaks - so steer clear if possible.

Well, I think it is quite safe - but u might prefer the company, because the country is very different from the western world, and its nice to know u have someone with u... c if u can synch up with other travellers.

Is this ur first visit to India or a similar country? Have u travelled solo before? how comfortable are u doing it -thinka bout all these before u make ur decision.

Hello Trailpirat

I went to India alone, when I was 28. I think it is OK for u to go.
I did get a lot of unwanted attention, and invitations for dates and marriage. But, that was as bad as it got. They did not touch me.
If us get tired of the attention, u can go to the family section of restaurants and trains, to escape, for a while. Unaccompanied men are not allowed in these.

I think u have enough time, as long as u dont expect to see everything. I was only there, for 10 days.

Post this, in the Asia forum, and lots of people who have been to India will see it.
