going to be in Hoi an (Vietanm) in the next week and want to get a few things made. So was wondering if anyone had any recommendations re: tailors

I would recommend Thu Thuy tailor on Le Loi Street. My boyfriend and I both had suits made there last year and we thought they were brilliant. Apparently there are cheaper tailors, but this one seemed to be the best quality and had come highly recommended. They will keep your measurements for years so you can order from them again in the future. We found them very quick and professional.

There are so many, that individual recomendataions aren't really neccessary. All have glowing references (in assorted languages) and i've not heard of any to specifically avoid. It's basically a case of wandering around, seeing who has what and will give you the best deals on stuff. I would suggest trying NOT to buy anything for the first morning/day. Instead, just wander around and get a feel. Talk to people in shops about what you want, and then work out who to go to later.

One tip: remember exactly who you have bought what off. So many people buy lots of things in lots of shops, and then end up forgetting to collect something (or forgetting who they've bought it off) and leaving with out it!

another top tip!

don't let yourself get carried away! i have a suitcase on top of my wardrobe with a whole heap of stuff i bought whilst travelling through se asia.... half of it is crap i got made in hoi an.

suits are well worth it as they are generally excellent and so cheap!

but beware that the stripey linen trousers/kaftan/skirt/shirt/whatever that looks cool in asia can look a little strange elsewhere haha

i have a good few garments from hoi an that are gathering dust

that said, it is a wicked place and getting clothes made by tailors is fun

enjoy it

joey ;)

I was really impressed with Yaly! They whipped up a pair of pants, and two dresses in a couple of hours. Just take in a photo or magazine clipping of something you want and they will have it ready in no time.
