I'm looking at 3-4 weeks in spain and hope to throw in a bit of self-driving as well if that's possible.
1. What are the possible cities/towns I can cover over this period of time?
2. Is self-driving safe for 2 girls?
3. I read that its really really hot in june/July/Aug... what about May/June period? I'm not keen on getting burnt over 4 weeks...any advice?
First of all, you are going to love it..
May and June is perfect here in Spain.. gorgeous weather.. everywhere..
If you have 4 weeks, you should consider doing something called the Camino De Santiago.. it is an ancient pilgrimage route that leads to Santiago de Compostella.. it is a fantastic journey.. while on the trail, you stay in hostals especially set up for the walkers at a cost of about 5 dollars a night, per person..most have cooking facilities or are located near restaurants that offer good food very cheap.. I have done it twice myself, I am a woman, and I came and walked the trail by myself.. however, you will meet lots of people doing the same thing. You get to see a Spain most people never see.. After my second time doing the trip I stayed here in Spain.. You should know that I had not one single word of Spanish when I got here and did the walks... You will meet people of all ages from everywhere in the world.. about 100 thousand people do the walk every year, and once you have done it you will know why..DO IT!..you will never regret it.. There are websites you can google for the Camino de Santiago that can help.. just remember to pack light, and don't bring anything extra, you will only be mailing it home.
May and June are perfect months for exploring Spain. In May many of the spectacular wild flowers will still be in bloom - the meadows and mountains have to be seen to be believed.
Self driving is perfectly safe for 2 females and you will see so much more of this beautiful country by being able to get away from main road networks and into the ´real´Spain.
I hope that you will spend part of your stay here in Andalucia. The cities of Granada, Seville and Malaga should not be missed - would suggest you stay outside the cities and travel in by the excellent puiblic transport system - and there are too many smaller ´must sees´to list. Our area of the Axarquia (east of Malaga) is wonderful and missed by many people who stick to the areas west of Malaga - come and see the traditional resorts of Nerja and Torre del Mar and don´t miss a drive (or better still have a couple of nights here) round spectacular Lake Vinuela.
If you decide to visit Andalucia let me know if I can be of help in any way.
You will have a fantastic trip!
As you've already read May and June are the best months to visit Spain, because of the weather, landscape, lack of tourists, etc.
Self-driving will be great since you will have the possibility of seeing the hide side os Spain, the deeper Spain, and the price of gas here is very cheap compared to other countries.
Don't worry about your safety during the trip? You will be as safe as in France, Germany or any other west-european country.
In order to help you I should know what do you like? Do you want to see big cities? Museums? Castles? Medieval towns? Do you prefer the green of the North or the red of the South?
Tell me more about your preferences and I will try to make a route for you.
In 4 weeks you will have time to see not everything but the most important and beautiful things of the country.
