Dresden is a great city, if you are an art freak like me you could spent days just looking at the architecture and the galleries.

The gallery "Alte Meister" inside the Zwinger palace is home to paintings by Raffael, Giorgione, Tizian, Rembrandt, Vermeer, Rubens and Van Dyck. Seeing the Zwinger alone takes a day and if you want to see the paintings too, you need a second and a third day!

Highly sought, because recently reopened is the Grüne Gewölbe (Green Vault), the private art collection of the Saxon kings.

Dresden is also a museum city and I can highly recommend the Traffic museum. But best figure out for yourself what you want to see.

Hi Andy,

Difficult to say without being in your shoes, but you might certainly enjoy a daytrip. The train ride along the Elbe and through the Sächsiche Schweiz (Saxon Switzerland) is lovely. I think a day trip might offer you at least a brief introduction.
