August-Sept or November:
Any easy-going, flexible, adventurous people interested in travelling around Cuba for a month or so during these periods?
I have heard it is difficult to travel there without spanish, so would like to spend at least a week in Havana, doing some basic spanish lessons (and salsa lessons :-), then move on the rest of the country. I really really want to do this, but I hope I don't have to do it alone!!!
If anyone can go at any point after mid August, let me know! Otherwise, if you are there anyway and don't want to travel with anyone, but can maybe meet up for a drink somewhere, that would be awesome too!
Are you still planning a trip to Cuba? I'm from the US and have many travel restrictions and frankly, I don't know where to begin cutting at the red tape. I can help with the language; idioms may be challenging but over all I'm modestly in great lingual shape. I hope you're closer to recovery. Take care.
I have been on holiday in Cuba 2 years running, usually staying in a resort, but last year I ventured outside the resort onto the main island to stay with a cuban friend in Santa Clara, i confess I was lucky that I have a tanned complexion and consequently mistaken for a local which made it more fun for me.
Staying in Santa Clara was fantastic I learnt so much about the culture, way of life and a little about the language and not to mention being taken to a proper open air salsa nightclub which was like nothing I had seen before and I got the salsa rhythm quick and had a great time.
I personally wouldn't worry too much about the language barrier although have a crash course may work in your favour!
Enjoy yourself and eat a cuban mango for me as they are gorgeous!!
I´m going to cuba on august 2007 and it would be nice to meet some other travellers. As a female travelling alone I have some concerns and it would be nice to travel with someone at least some part of the trip. I´m spending three weeks in cuba, I´ll arrive at havana on 12th on august and spend there few days before I´ll continue to the smaller cities and countryside. I already know spanish and some salsa too, but it would be fun hang out and maybe share casas, taxis and have some mojitos etc...
Sorry to piggy back on your thread, but I'm going from June 17t or so for about 3 weeks and a friend is with me for about 8 days, but then I'm flying solo... trying to decide how to go about it since I definitely prefer company to being solo... so if I can find peeps to travel with, I'll stick around, but otherwise I might go somewhere else after that time... any suggestions for tracking solo? or know anyone who's going to be there in late June early July?
