make sure to reserve a hotel on time. Munich is during the Oktoberfest very crowded, so you should get allready in touch with the Hotels. Wombats Hostel Jaegers Hostel Hotel Uhland Hotel St. Paul

All the Hotels are pretty cheap and right next to Oktoberfest.

Good luck!

[ Edit: no promos in the forums thanks ]

I have stayed at Hotel Excelsior in Munich. Lovely. The best breakfast I've ever had in Europe....even champagne! The hotel is small, very clean, with a great location. Just half a block to the train station and we walked to the Marionplatz and Haufbrauhaus. It is on a busy street with eateries and the huge Hurtie department store was across the street. Our rooms were on the back side and noise was not an issue for us.
Make sure you get out to Fussen to visit Neuschwanstein Castle. This is a charming, fairytale village set in the mountains.
We took the train to Salzburg, Austria. It took a little over an hour. Salzburg may be my favorite European city.
