Where & How to get a Visa for Vietnam

Travel Forums Asia Where & How to get a Visa for Vietnam

We are travelling last minute from the United States to Asia for about a month. We fly into Bangkok and out of Vietnam. Since this trip is last minute and the holidays in Vietnam we are unable to get our visa for Vietnam while in the United States. We would like to travel immediately to either Cambodia or Laos prior to entering Vietnam. How easy is it for us to get a visa for Vietnam from either Laos or Cambodia? And are we able to book the visa from any travel agent in any town (ie Siem Reap) or must we book through the embassy directly? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can pick up a visa for Vietnam in Asia no problem if there is a Vietnam embassy or authorised visa issuer in town (I got mine from Sihanoukville, for example). You can go to the embassy, but it may be quicker and easier to get an agent to do it. Some agents offer 24 hour visa service if there is a Vietnam embassy in town. Mine cost $35 through my guesthouse and took about 6 hours.... Embassies should be listed in your guidebook. But, do bear in mind I'm British...not sure if it would be any different for you, I doubt it, but it's possible.

Hollie,
Phnom Penh or Sihanoukville are the cheapest and fastest places to get a VN. The guy in S'ville will do it while you stand there. Fast costs more when getting a VN visa. Most GHs will get it for you for a small fee over the $25 visa fee, usually in 1 day. Not worth your time/effort to go the VN embassy yourself.

Send me a PM if you want recommendations on places to get it fast & cheap.
