Hi folks,

I am VERY pleased to announce the latest feature available freely to you all on Travellerspoint! As of tonight, members can upload their own pictures to the site! Previously, this was a pre-moderated affair, where I would only approve pictures of a high enough quality to be in our gallery and upload them myself manually. Now, you can upload your pictures and they are immediately visible on your private gallery page, where you can also edit all the details and delete them again as you please! They can then be 'featured' by myself and they will end up on the front page and throughout the site! Each member has an initial limit of 500 Kb, which should allow about 14 photos or so if sized reasonably.

So now it is over to you guys to show the rest of us some pics from your trips - or even from behind your computer right now!!

Cheers, Peter

Oh, I forgot to mention where you can find this feature -- it's listed as a new item in the control panel!! Here's a direct link, which will only work when you are logged in : http://www.travellerspoint.com/my_photo_gallery.cfm

Visitors looking for member galleries will see a link to it from each user's profile.

Hi Aman,

For the moment we are leaving the size limit at 500 K. We have no real problems with increasing it for members that use the site a lot, but as of yet there is no way to do that on a individual basis. That means that if we increase the size limit to 1/2 MB, all 15000 + members could theoretically upload that amount in photos. The memory required would be quite significant and as the service is free (but the memory of course isn't.... ) , not something we can do right now.

What we have in mind though is to increase limits based on forum or travel helper activity. That way we know the members that use the site the most and are most active helping others, also get the most benefits.

It's not very very complicated to do just like that but we want to tie it in with some other ideas so are still holding off on that for now in order that it might complete the other areas of the site some more too.

Just wanted to mention that for the enthusiastic photo lovers

Cheers,

Sam

A follow up on this one. I've made a few more improvements, which I just uploaded.

- you can now link photos to diary entries in your photo gallery
- the feature photos (on the photography page at the moment - soon on the front page as well) will now only loop through the last 20 featured pictures, keeping things a bit fresher.
- the popup now will also let you navigate through other pictures by that user / in that country, etc
- you now have the option to view a gallery 'large' and 'small' - looks nicer large, loads faster small

That's about it. Hope you all like it :)

Hey Pete,

First off, well done. I like it :) Especially for diary updates.

One thing I noticed though was that if the photo isn't linked to a diary entry, then it gives an unrecognized error when I try to upload it. It gave the error 5 times or so and then when I chose a random diary entry it accepted the photo so it must have been that I think.

Other than that, nice work :)

Cheers,

Sam

Woops :) Fixed that little problem up as well as an issue with the sorting by dates - perhaps no-one had noticed that one yet though. I've put the random display for the 20 latest featured pictures on the front page now as well.
