Does anybody have any advice on which rucksack to purchase for a year of travels. Thinking of around 55ltr size but cant find any reviews to help make up my mind. I thought first hand experience would help me choose a quaility rucksack that will easily last the full year.
Thanks for your reply's Andrew.
You can find rucksack which open from the side, like a suitcase. If you take one which open from the top that will mean you will have undo your pack every time you are look for something inside.
Mine is a Karrimor one and it´s excellent.
I've got a Lowe Alpine 60L front opening. I've been on the road for over 5 months so far and have no complaints about it whatsoever. Nothing has broken (touch wood..), nothing is even wearing and it still pretty much looks like new (except that it's a bit dusty!). It opens at the front which is dead handy, you can split top and bottom, it has a few hidden pockets and it locks easily. It's also really comfortable (for me, anyway) to wear on your back walking around.
The best thing to do is go to some shops and try some with weights inside and see what is comfortable and what design you like.
I have a 55litre McKinley Polar W which is a top-loader but it has zippers on the sides for easy access to your stuff. I really like it, but it really hasn't got enough mileage on it yet for me to say about endurance, but I did take it on a month long trip and it still looks like new..
