Hi

I was wondering what suggestions you could offer concerning travel from LA to Las Vegas then onto the Grand Canyon
and then finally back to LA again.

I was thinking fly to Las Vegas - hire car to Grand Canyon and then fly back to LA?

Cheapest possible suggestions - however Im on a time limit so nothig that eats up too much travel time.

Threr are many cheap flights from LA to Vegas. There are plenty of places to hire cars in Vegas. It sounds like you know what you are doing. However you will need a car in LA - public transporation is a joke there.

Julianne,
You do not save much time anymore flying LA-LV. By the time you get to LAX, get through the screenings, flight time and get out of McCarran, it will take at least 4 hours. You can drive LA to Vegas in 4-5 hours midweek. DO NOT come to Vegas on the weekends. Too crowded and room prices are higher. Now the problem. You are too young for most car rental agencies. Most say 25 yrs old in order to rent. If you have someone along older, that you be helpful.

If this option makes sense to you, then send me a PM and I will try to help with rentals. Other option is find the cheapest flight, then take a car, bus or flight to the Grand Canyon. Good Luck.

Note to vegasmike6. Normally I'd wholeheartedly agree with you that driving is just as good as flying. But the recent HEAVY construction all along I-15 may make flying a better alternative for the near future. Just last night we were on the Cajon pass and a normal 15 minute trip (138/I-15 interchange to Devore) took a solid hour. Sheesh. And there's heavy construction all the way to state line.

Folks if you drive from LA to Vegas/Laughlin/Colorado River along I-15 travel during the weekday. Avoid weekends and nights for the next few months.

Mike,
That is good advice. My nephew went to LA recently, down on a Sunday for a Monday seminar and had a very long wait at Cajon as well. Not many good alternatives. Flying is no bargain or fun anymore and the LA-LV drive is not much fun either.

We just finished with the NBA All Star game and McCarran was a nightmare Monday & Tuesday. Southwest just did not have enough people in place to handle the crowds.

TP members, please try to come to Vegas on a Monday-Tuesday and get out of here by Friday. Check for holidays as well. Most US holidays are scheduled for a Monday or Friday regardless of what day it falls on. A 3 day weekend is just to tempting to pass up it seems. A word to the wise.
