Quoting Mel.

When u think something u are doing is mental, suppress the thought, right away. It is the enemy, of adventure.

How long will your trip take?

I am a vegetarian, all the time. If the restaurants in Gambia only serve a heap of steaming stoge, with goats meat on top, then just buy peanuts and fruit and boiled eggs, in the shops. I have not been to Gambia, but I think these things are plentiful in many African countries.;)

I have money for 5 weeks. but the car will probably be sold 2 to 3 times the amount i paid in Europe (that is a bonus)....

If people think i am mental, it really doesn't care me. as long as my parents are ok with it (and they always are, luckely)....I am a mothers child

remember the cartrip from Netherlands to Gambia?

Netherlands-Belgium-France-Spain-Portugal-Spain-Marocco-Western Sahara-Mauritania-Mali-Senegal-Gambia = approx. 8.500 km. Pure adventure and a dream coming true since I was a child.

most people think I am mental, probably I am

Yep, i remember it very well, that's why I was asking. I knew the route in general, just wondering if you have a specific route or specific roads you are going to travel. Are you also going to do some dirt road tracks?

By the way Wouter, don't count on getting too much money for your car. The market is pretty tight these days compared to let's say 5 years ago. But it will be more than enough to pay for a couple of tickets back home. Have you bought tickets back home already?

I choosed not to drive on the sand pistes. it would be too much for my car and i am not really a mechanic. Since last year the entire route is asphalted (except some 2 kilometres between the border of Western-sahara (Marocco) and Mauritania).

you are right. these days there are companies that bring old (written off) cars from Europe to west-Africa. These cars get fixed up easily for less costs and sold for a good dollar. the ship goes from Hamburg, via Rotterdam to Antwerp and picks up used, written off, cars

In europe cars are written off because the costs for maintainance are too high. If maintanance wasn't that expensive in Europe there would be driving much more cars with an age of 20 years or older. that happens now in Africa where maintanance is not expensive. your Peugeot with 412.000 kilometers could easily drive 10 years or more in Africa. Here in Europe maybe two or three years if you are lucky?;) Otherwise it is not worth anymore and a financial benefit to buy a good second handed car with say 120.000 kilometers...

Ok, if flying back from Dakar, you will still find some available seats on a plane back to Europe. From Gambia i wouldn't count on it. And i agree, fixed dates is not something to prefer. Check availability on world ticket center for example.

And...indeed, almost 412.000 k's on it...almost time for apk!
