We would like to buy a car in Perth, Western Australia and sell in it Brisbaine, Queensland. I ve heard that it can be a problem tranferring the registration and so on if you are are selling a car registred in another state... Does anyone have any experince or could any aussie help me with that?
Thank you!!!! Zuzana
You heard correct. Each State deals with car registration differently and the way you have to have your car checked and passed. Costs can be substantially different too. What backpackers tend to do is buy a cheap vehicle like a Kombi or some sort of van, second hand (used) and when they get to where they want to sell they look for backpackers who normally know of special places where they (backpackers) sell their cars. It is up to the buyer then to worry about the registration etc. Make sure though you know the situation in the State you intend to sell in and how roadworthy the vehicle is. Police can stop unroadworthy vehicles and hit the driver/owner with heavy fines on the spot.
You might not know (or care), but second hand cars in Perth are probably 10-20% more expensive than they are on the East coast.
