99thfloor has indicated that this thread is about Thailand

Hey Guys, i'm going to be staying on Phuket for two months later this year, and just wondered what it's like? I've been to Thailand before but stayed well away from all really tourist or westernised places. Thanks for any advice or tips on what to do/ not to do.....

Phuket is pretty amazing. Went scuba diving in the Indian Ocean - fantastic. Phuket is pretty commercial though, be prepared for that, but if you've been off the beaten track for a while it might be a nice change.

Enjoy.

I loved Phuket - loved the place - went snorkelling & swimming in Indian Ocean, to James Bond Island (where filmed man with golden gun) out into the lagoons, to where filmed Beach, Koh Phi Phi, went elephant trekking, shopping in markets, for amazing thai massages!

But as Mikey said it is a tourist area so just prepare yourself for that - it may not be your bag if you like to get of the beaten track.

I liked Phuket town but when we went down to Rawai to visit a friend who lives there with his Thai wife we were thoroughly disgusted. It was full of old smelly men with gorgeous young thai wives who just sat about and talked shite. We were drinking in a bar one night and there was a dude who was playing pool and wearing tight leather trousers which had a strap around his groin - I think to accentuate his penis. There was also an old hippy minger who kept groping a waitress as she carried a tray full of drinks. I'm afraid to say I couldn't help but elbow him in the ribs to stop him doing it. He just walked off in the huff but my boyfriend was mad at me - I really couldn't help myself though! We saw a lot of old mens 'fruit bowls' also as they padded around in tight little navy pants. Puts you off your breakfast. It's a beautiful place otherwise...

Hello 99thfloor

I hope u are not hoping to stay away from touristy places, this time, in Thailand. Phuket is very very touristy. I think it is probably the most popular destination in Thailand, for Western tourists.
