Me again. just wondered if anyone new of any free or really cheap volunteering work thats going on in india, thailand and borneo (with orang utans or conservation). Going backpacking throughout that region from August till December and want to do some volunteering along the way. I ve noticed websites that charge extortionate amounts for 4 weeks work. we just want to do stuff where we can spend a few days as cheap as poss. is it best to look for this kind of thing once we are there through local hostels ect ?
any information would be greatly apreciated.
Im planning (last minute I know) to go to SE Asia this summer and really want to do a volunteer project, preferably a free one, does anyone know of any?
I know of a worthy organization in Phnom Penh Cambodia that does not charge any fees. They help orphans and poor families with food, shelter, health care schooling, etc. If this is something that may interest you, send me a PM.

Although some are ripoffs, many charge to weed out the freeloaders.
Most organizations aren't looking for a few days "help" from people passing through.
They typically have an abundance of unskilled labor available, and Westerners are higher maintenance than local talent.
If you have something to bring to the table, I am sure you will be welcomed.
Otherwise, enjoy your holiday.
Sometimes we can best help by giving a little cash and moving on.......
