Hey there fellow travelers.
I am interested in travelling from Israel to Senegal this upcoming winter (December2007-March2008...give or take a couple of months). I am trying to get there in the cheapest way possible, and after looking online and seeing that the flights are pretty steep, i'd like to look in to another way. maybe by bus? train? I'd love to know what people think and if they have any information about transportation from Israel to Tunisia, Morocco, Mali? or whatever is easiest....

Thanks for your time and help
Max ZT

There are a lot of countries on your route that are politicaly unstabil. Do you have a route in mind? Please let me know.

That's an interesting trip. I don't know if you have an israeli pasport. In that case it is actually not possible. But otherwise a possible route could through Egypt, Libya, Tunisia, Algeria, Morocco and south towards Senegal. But the last stretch doesn't have public transport, you will have to get a ride (bij wouterrr).
Algeria and Libya are tricky, because they might not give you a visa when travelling independent. In general, arranging the visas before you leave is advisable, might not get them at borders at all.

A route with less hassle would take you alle the way through southern europe where you connect with the Morocco and southwards part.

I wouldn't advise going through Algeria, really. Via Egypt to Sudan, Chad and Niger is also not recommendable unless you don't care about the risks. Best is indeed via Europe and then via Spain down trough Marocco etc like Utrecht said.

wow, this site is great. thanks so much to all those that are reading this and offering their help.

about me: a musician with an american and canadian passport.

i would like to along the way spend some time in egypt and morroco definately, but other places are equally as inticing. does anyone know of any information regarding a boat from egypt to spain or morroco or something of that nature? maybe israel to sicily and then from there to morocco? im really just throwing thoughts out there. i have some time before i want to do this, so i'm really interested in entertaining any and all ideas.
thanks again for all this help
much love,
Max ZT

do you know the worldmap a little?

7. Posted by MaxZT (Budding Member 4 posts) 9y

what do you mean? have i looked at a world map before? is that what you're asking? i dont understand your question. this seems like a sarcastic response to the question of whether or not there is a boat travelling from israel to sicily. which i dont think is that silly of a question....
explain yourself...

Maybe little sarcasm yes, sorry no intention to offend. based on you thinking that there is a shippingline between Israel and Spain or Marocco because there isn't. Shippinglines lose compitition to the budget airlines in Europe these days (you probably couldn't know that, excuses again).

I think u should visit Egypt first and then fly out of Cairo. The next thing is to for example fly for Madrid. From there work your way down to Marocco (the Gibraltar street from Spain to Marocco is crossed by ferry (about 25€)). As Utrecht has said there is no public transport on certain parts of the route from Western-Sahara to senegal (I am not sure about it but you should check that beforehand). I think you will have a nice trip. Hope this helps a little;)

Ferry services from Israel were suspended in 2001. Also Salamis ferry lines who used to operate from Egypte to Greece, have suspended services until further notice. From Libanon or Syria is not an option either for ferries.
Maybe try to go overland to Tunisia and see if it is possible to arrange the Libyan visa. From Tunisia there are ferries to Italy and France for example and you skip Algeria, which is the most tricky part of your possible travel through Northern Africa.
Check this site for ferry info from tunisia:

http://www.cemar.it/dest/ferries_tunisia.htm

Or when you don't want to go to southern europe, take a flight from Tunis. Otherwise there might be cheaper flights from Cairo (like wouterrr said) to Casablanca.

heh
yeah sorry. i just reread my post and it sounded a little perturbed or agitated, it was not meant...

cool.
ok, so ferrys and shipping lines are a no go...
do you guys no of maybe a cruise ship that travels westward in the meditteranean?
(heh im a musician, maybe they could hire me!?)

if not, i like the idea of flying from egpyt to spain.
and then from spain to morocco (air maroc 19 Euro one way, crazy cheap)

but then getting from there to senegal might still be tricky...
thanks again for all the help
