Anyone got any information about staying in Kazakhstan. Considering staying for two or three months in Almaty, so looking for apartment to rent-are they easy to find and safe?
what about security situation - heard it can be dangerous at times for foreigners?
any information about this or other relevant matters would be gratefully received

Hi We have been living in Shymkent for a few months and have loved it. We have been to Almaty a few times and I felt safe at all times. I have heard from friends here that things can get a bit dodgy after dark but as long as you keep to yourself and especially if you're not alone you should be fine. We got our friends to find us an apartment. I think it is mainly done on a word of moth system so you might find that hard unles you know someone???

Kazakhstan is a quite safe country, but a bit expensive for Asia :-(
You can find a plain flat in any city of the country for about 100-500 dollars (not too few for the eastern states). A good place to find information about Kazakhstan is Avalon Kazakhstan eBook (you can buy it at www.kazakhstan-online.net)
