I'm currently in the beginning stages of planning my first trip to Asia. I'm planing on going to china, thailand, cambodia, malaysia, laos and possibly vietnam. I plan to do it the budget way, staying in hostels and such but I want to bring enough money that i will have a good time and i won't miss out on anything. I'm planning on 3-4 months. Airfare not included, whats a good amount of money (CAD) to have readily available?
Any help would be greatly appreciated
If you set $23US a day + the return airfare that should allow plenty of luxuries if you stay in the cheap accommodation. Most days you could get by on $20US or even less, but it's better to budget a bit too much than budget really low and find you spend too much. So that is approximately $800CAD per month not including your return airfare from Canada as I am not sure about that cost, so you'd have to add that on to the $2400-$3200CAD for 3-4 months. Have a great trip.

Hmmm, it depends on the time of year you travel. At peak season, GBP15 is an ok budget including bus/train travel, any less than this will be tight unless you are ok to really rough it. Obviously, some places/days/times of year you will spend less and sometimes more (eg if you are travelling over xmas), but I've found this a good average to go by and it allows for the odd luxury. This is the case for SE Asia...I haven't been to China though.
