Travellerspoint map on another blog

Travel Forums System Talk Travellerspoint map on another blog

Luv the maps at this site for travel routes.

It's great to have the distance calculated. The maps load quickly and are just what I need...

... at my existing blog over on wordpress.com.

A link to this page does not really solve the problem because I want people to see the map as they read my stuff. (BTW, <embed> is not permitted.)

Blog columns are narrow (mine is 500 px. max.) so I need to keep images within that.

Question: can it be done... take the right column of the Travel Map and put it on my blog?

And fiddle the parameters for the width (I don't mind editing the html).

I figure you'd want a link back to Travellerspoint. Yes, of course.

Thanks for considering this.

This can't be done at all... yet. It's the very next item on my todo list though.
It's not trivial, and we'll need to do lots and lots of testing before making this available (since it'll be very hard to make changes after it's gone live, and there's a lot of blogs out there), so I won't try to give an ETA, but at least: we're working on it. :)

edit: actually, after writing that, I went to have a look at the wordpress.com faq, and see that they don't allow users to embed javascript, while we definitely need that available to make the maps actually work. You mentioned <embed> (which the maps don't use), but likewise they filter out <object>, and we can't even enable things through an <iframe>. Meh. Stupid wordpress. So, although it's coming, it looks like you won't be able to put this on your wordpress.com blog at all. :(
(Our best bet is probably to, once we have this working, contact them to see if it could be made into a widget, similar as they have for youtube e.a. But I'd expect that to be a lot more long term before it happens.)

:(

Many thanks for your speedy reply!

I hope you can work out something with WP.com. I run 3 blogs there, and my professional travel buddy has just started one of her own. I find the folks who run WP to be enthusiastic and responsive, so you might find them helpful.

So, I'll be watching. I sure would like to use the maps. A widget would be okay, but I'd prefer something bigger.

Best wishes

Sander, Just a thought, and I don't want to be a pest...

But...

It would not be much trouble for me to create a map here, take a picture of my screen (using the Macintosh utility called Grab), convert that to a gif or png (Grab makes a tiff), and post the image on my blog. Since it is a map, compressing it horizontally to fit in my column would work easily. It would also be simple to make that gif, or some of the associated text, link back to travellerspoint.

But I'd prefer it if this site created some cut&paste code + the image with a click of a button here. I'm lazy, and this would ensure the link to this site from mine.

Hmm. And for the public blogs (one of our blogs is just for family & friends), if the maps were also visible here (with some explanation) with a link to our WP blog, we'd all enjoy a bit more Google juice.

Many thanks.

i second this request. Would definitely be nice to be able to embed the travelmaps into an existing webpage elsewhere. Thanks a lot

I'd like to 2nd / 3rd this... I have my own WP installation and would love to be able to embed your excellent map in it.
