i am still waiting for my interview. u only need to show your FD slip. no need to withdraw your money. you can ask your passport back provided they are not using it. do give them 1 to 2 months to process. so submit it as soon as possible. apply for US visa first only apply WHM should be ok. but due to you need to wait quite long time to process your application, so do not apply it before you leave to US. you might not be able to get back your passport for your trip. and you can apply early cos you can write you only want to travel to UK on July. it is reasonable cos provided they process your application for 2 months, and you are allow to request your visa starting within 3 months period when you get your visa. means if you apply now, you need to wait for 2 months to process, and you can ask them to give your visa validity date starting from July. anyway, you can mention to VFS that you need your passport back in order for you to travel to US, and ask for their advice.

Hello \...

i got my visa already... so most probably leaving in May. To me the application process is really not so easy. Just make sure the documents are complete and very transparent. Explain whatever that is neccesary, like for example why there's suddenly 2K in your account.. what to do there. Must remember to put travel plan, and tell everything honestly.

My guess is they are human too and they have a job to do. So they really need to see your intentions of going, and wheher you have enough money to survive once u got there.

For Oshy, if u intend to apply for other country's visa.. I think u apply for USA first, because WHM takes a long time to process.. mine took about 3 weeks (but including the Chinese new year holliday), and in the event you want to withdraw your passport to apply for other visa, you have to give them a minimum of 3 working days. I was in the same situation too... my company wanted to send me overseas but i cannot get the passport in time to apply for the visa.

If you have any more question.. do drop me a message...

thanks penghong and may! i am going to renew my passport (the officers told me i have to do a new one). So do i apply with my old passport or the new one? yeah... going to apply for USA visa. then WHS. i was thinking of applying after my USA trip. but then it will have to be in JUly. wont it be freezing in UK in Oct / Nov? does it help if i apply on the 8th April (after my USA visa ... takes 1 week right?) then fly off to USA 18th May. if it's a hassle... i may apply in August and leave in November. GRRR.... time management!

by the way,
how did u explain the 2k? on the application form or another sheet of paper? i know that we need to type our plan on a separate sheet of paper. ant the undertaking statement. if i'm planning to go with my boyfriend, where do i state that? on the application form (section 1o - other information)? it will be horrible if only ONE of us gets the visa. besides, we are sharing the cost there.

I am a bit worried - i sent my passport off to get my visa last week, BUT - i sorta sent it to the wrong address , and coz i sent it via registered post - i dont think they can deliver it to the right one!
What i was wondering is, on the BHC Australia website, it says applications are taking 2 weeks to process! Does anyone know how true this is, because i am sposed to pay for my ticket TODAY - and i worked late, and now the BHC is closed, so i cant ring! I need to know if i will get my pasport back in time! and if i dont have it, how successful have people been in applying in a country other than their residence, coz i could prolly apply from canada!
whew - i am stressin about it! ughh!
any help would be excellent!

Did you mark it attention 'British High Commission' in Canberra? because if it's going to the British Consul it should make it's way to the Visa section, but will probably take a couple more days as it's shuttled through the internal mail system.

If it's not addressed correctly it might just be sent back to you, did you put your return address on it?

Did you use this website for reference?

Specifically their contact details are here:

I'd wait until the day after tomorrow and ring BHC, (or if you can fax them, because I've gotten a call straight away from that, and it's cheaper) to confirm that they have recieved your application. Ask them if another section might have recieved it. I wouldn't start panicking for a week at least.

Dear Oshy_79, I have already had my visa approved and going to UK in April 15. I think it would be better if you could go to USA first, then apply the UK WHV...

As for opening the UK HSBC bank account, we could actually ask from local HSBC to provide the reference letter. But I was told that I could only ask for reference if we are:
1) Employed
2) Student

As WHV, we will only get our job at UK after we go there, so we are not fulfilled neither of these requirements...

Any experience Malaysian who has gotten their UK account opened? Do you mind sharing the information?

My friend told me that it is not easy to open an account at UK coz we need UK resident address too... sigh...
