hey there. I am leaving to UK in 17 days.

However, I still have some questions on mind:

1. How do you bring your money there? Bank draft?
2. Is there any difficulty opening a bank account in UK upon arrival? Even if you are jobless?

Thanks. ;)

hi... i'm leaving for London on Oct19.
Will it be difficult to get through customs? What would you need to ensure they'll let you through.. passports, return flight details, what other documents will they want to see? do they normally ask for copies of visa application? statements etc?

hope someone can shed some light on this.. im getting a bit nervous now!

Quoting lydiakoh

do u need to do a medical checkup and xray???

Dear lydiakoh,

my point of view is, a medical checkup and chest X-ray are not necessary,
i did it for my own for additional docs and my personal matter.

since u already got your WHM visa, there is really low risk to face any probs when reach to UK airport.

here is a case that i heard from my friend,
Her girl friend was refused to enter to UK a month ago, even though she's genuinely as a visitor to travel to london while her boyfriend is studying there.
She only wants to travel for 25days, coz she needs to back M'sia for new semester.
But the main problem is,
the immigration officer in heathrow airport not allow her to enter UK was because she did not has a prior entry clearance, which is visitor visa.
She's actually directly fly to london, the only information she gave to the officers was, the address and contact num of her boyfriend, ONLY.

So, i think the officers not believe her, thought her main purpose is not traveling.

shortly,
although we are citizen of commonwealth, not necessary to apply visitor visa if visiting UK is less than 3 months..
Still, in this case, i learned something.
It's better prepare everything rather than waste the flight tickets and was sent back to home country.
her flight tickets are round trip some more, and she show the train tickets which traveled to scotland with her bf, but the immigration officers not believe her.
Once the immigration officers suspect something, no matter u are really innocent and really go to travel, they still not allow u to enter, they have the rights to do so....

She should provides her bank statement, her student status in M'sia.
Can't directly fly to london by this way.
It's not going to HK, or China...
My friend said, she wasted about 5k, flight ticket & the train fare& accommodation to scotland.

Hi lydiakoh,

I think it would really depend on the immigration officer you face up to. Honestly. From what i read from posts here, some holidaymakers had such tough time entering even doing it the right way. I flew into UK through Manchester Airport and the officer just ask 2 questions.

- why are you here for? (eventhough he saw my entry clearance to enter as working holidaymaker)
- what do you work as in your country?

You won't need a medical report. On the safe side, get all the documents (bank statement/bank book, sponsor letter, travellers cheque/credit cards/cash/etc) ready though i was not ask for these. Don't think you need the visa application as the entry clearance would be in your passport.
On top of that, make yourself presentable, pleasant and be polite when it's your turn. Seriously :).

Good luck

hi lydiakoh,
glad that everything's fine on your side. im already in london for 2 week with my gf ... we are currently staying at wembley stadium there now looking for a job online. regarding the bank acc opening ..i was at hsbc the other day, and i over heard some uncle wanting to open a passport account for his nephew or something, the bank staff said he needs to produce a letter stating his nephew is staying with him, his council tax statement and utility bills confirming residency. lydia u should have opened a uk acc in malaysia before u came. as far as know and through my experience its very, very troublesome here and the service is super slow. good luck and give me a call if u are free to meetup 07964376192 and all the best
