Hi lydiakoh,

I only opened an account after i found work. It was easy for me to open a basic account (HSBC) when was in Chester. A tenancy agreement and employment letter is all needed. If they're giving youa hard time, try Abbey bank because they're more flexible (just passport and employment letter). Reputable banks like Barclays tend to ask for more stuff.

Hi everyone,

I just got my WHM visa from the BHC in Kuala Lumpur and will be traveling to the UK in January 2008. I was thinking of residing in London during my WHM period. However, I know no one in London since most of my friends are in the West Midlands and other parts of the UK.

Does anyone know where is the best area to stay in London? I'll be living on a strict budget for the first few months til I get a full time job. I saw some cheap accomodation for let in Kensington i.e. bedsits and studio, and I was thinking of going to meet up with property agents once I arrive in the UK. What are the criteria that I should consider when looking for accomodation? Would I be able to rent a a bedsit or studio without a job and a bank account? What about the bills and the council tax?

Is there anyone who's flying to the UK in Jan on WHM visa?

Hey all,
Myquestion is quite similar to S8678, just want to check with you all on certain doubt regarding filling up the form.

Part 5, asking about if have travel to other country. If 'Yes' please provide details of any trips to the UK below

If I had travel to other country beside UK, do I need to fill in the detail in the box.

Also I am in doubt how to fill in the blank for section 6.2

6.2.4 What holiday plans do you have whilst in UK?

is this a summary of my holiday in UK? as a planned itinerary need to be attached

6.2.7 What money is available to you for this visit

is this refering to my fix deposit of my bank account, do I need to mention the figure

Do you all fill in the Additional Information section
what is the detail we need to put in this box?

thank you

regards,
simon

Hi All,
Plan to go for the WHM visa after CNY, maybe somewhere March 2008. This forum indeed gives alot of insight to me on this issue. Wondering if it is ok for me to start applying the visa in Jan 2008? How fast is the approval now? Judging from LydiaKoh's posts, seems that it takes less than a month.. Hope my timing is good, arriving in MArch, the weather should be bearable and the job should be plenty.. Plan to take up a waitress job there..

Cheers,
Katherine;)

Hi Katherine,
glad to finally found a kaki to travel. I plan to go UK around Mac 2008. Maybe we could plan together.

I just got my visa approved 2 weeks ago. It took me less than a week to get it. During my application, the online checking system was down, so I was unable to track it. I wasnt sure exactly how many days it took to process, but i think if there is no call within 2 or 3 days after submission, then it is likely approved by BHC. I think it is pretty fast right now because of the fee increase and less ppl tend to apply.
if you are contacted, then it will take 2 weeks, otherwise 5 working days only.

good luck in ur application.

Does anybody know how much is the holidaymakers visa for those applying from Singapore? Tried searching online but couldn't find it. Thanks in advance.

I applied in Singapore last March it was like SGD300 something, can't recall. But it was about the same amount after conversion to MYR.
