Where do you want to start? What time of year will you be traveling? In North Carolina you should visit Wilmington and Wrightsville Beach and from there head up the "Crystal Coast" (make sure you visit a little place named Swansboro) and then take a ferry ride out to Hatteras and up the Outer Banks.

Cape cod is an excellent suggestion, and to further elaborate, Provincetown is a must see, at the tip of the Cape, as is Wellfleet and Chatham.

Boston is a fun city and pedestrian friendly with the Freedom Trail.

Maine is always worth a visit in the summer, from Boothbay Harbor, south, or even north to Acadia Island!

Mystic, CN is a nice visit for the old ships they have stored there.

Washington DC will be getting pretty warm by summer so I would focus on points north of there.

Annapolis and Havre de Grace in Maryland (also check out Harris' Crab House just a few miles east of Annapolis--the best crab house in the country).

In New Jersey, it's Wildwood and Atlantic City.

In Connecticut, I agree with the poster who mentioned Mystic.

In Delaware, it's Rehobeth Beach.

Washington, D.C. is great for visiting, but not really on the coast.

In Florida, go to Daytona Beach or South Beach (Miami Beach).

In Georgia, it's Savannah.

In South Carolina, it's Myrtle Beach or Charleston.

In Massachusetts, go to the Cape Cod area (the islands of Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket are big tourist areas, but I wouldn't spend more than a day on either one).

In New York, it's the Hamptons on Long Island--and possibly Coney Island.

And I don't know North Carolina--so I'll agree with the poster above.

I'd hit up Virginia Beach as well

Go to Long Beach, Jones Beach or the Hamptons out in Long Island. That's where I go!
