Hello Elnaz

I was in Shanghai, around 8 years ago.

What I liked most about it, was the old town, inside the city walls. It is old and beautiful, while other parts of the city look more modern. The tea house is an especially nice place, to sit, for a few hours.

I also loved the jazz band, at the Peace Hotel. The hotel is beautiful and old, but not in the old town. Every night a jazz band plays there. They had been playing together for around 60 years, when I was in China. They were persecuted, by the government, at one time in China, and went ungerground, but now they can play in public again. I dont usually like jazz, but they sound so good. I used to go there every night, when I was in Shanghai, to listen to them.

Mel,
What do you recommend more? I will be there in november for about 4 or 5 days I think. Is this too much?
I want to take a daytrip to Suzhou as well, good idea?
Thanks...also for starting this thread Elnaz!

Utrecht

For me, 4 or 5 days would not be too much(but I like to travel slowly, and have time to relax, and absorb the atmosphere).
Especially with that good music to listen to every night. But I am not sure if the guys in that band are still alive. They were already very old, when I was there.

I am not sure if i went to Suzhou, or not. I dont remember the names of all the places I went. How far away from Shanghai is it? I was in a town, near Shanghai, for a few days. Maybe that is it.

I also took a 16 hour boat ride accross the yellow sea, to an island, where I stayed, for a few days. That was also beautiful. There is a hill, with a monument on it, beside the main village, in the town. U can climb up the hill and look out over the yellow sea. And it really is yellow coloured.

it is very interesting, thanks.

Yes, it really is yellow.
I think some type of algae grows in it, to make it that colour.

Suzhou is less than an hour by train. Huangzhou and Nanjing are other places, but much further away.
Yellow sea, Red Sea, Black Sea, White Sea. It's pretty funny indeed Elnaz
You opened my mind just a little bit further again;)

If it is only an hour from Shanghai, u might as well take a day trip to it. U will still have time to hang out, in Shanghai.
