there are certain individuals in this forum and tell you 'ethopia' is very safe and more safer than a lot of countrys in the world....and that they will feed you with garbage such as, 'it could happen anywhere in the world' sorry but that is just pure and utter crap!

kidnappings of GROUPS of people does not happen in europe!!!

when you read this link, it tells you that you should travel with armed guard, maybe they forgot to mention that important detail.

It's in the northeast bordering southern Eritrea. Travelling there without a guard/police is stupid, people should no that. It's not related to other areas in Ethiopia. Addis and large parts of southern and northern ethiopia are perfectly ok.
Afar and the east is not. They were not kidnapped by the way, their cell phone just did not work...

I love taking risks. Otherwise you'd better stay at home and never go out

Safety is largely a matter of common sense and a bit of risk taking. take baghdad for example,, or better still, Israel. depending on the eye, israel could be a place of rich cultural and eligious importance as a destination, or a risky place to be amputated by a bomb..same for any other place.
