This guy - - did a trip to China and back that took 1.5 years. Not all the way but still pretty impressive!

Amazing.... I guess this is the best way to enjoy a journey. More time to admire the landscape, the country, the people...

I suppose, if u have plenty of time, why not?
And it would be so much better, for the environment, than flying.;)

Quoting Herr Bert

I am not sure that I would be riding a bike in South-East Asia, but that is another question.

Why not?

Perhaps because SEAn roads eat bicycles for breakfast? And some roads can be flooded at certain times of the year, so i guess its going to be tough... esp the Indonesia part, and Cambodia and Burma dont exactly have very user friendly roads too...

Where's Rich when you need him? Rich (Username Gelli) is our resident cartographer and expert on non-air travel. He'd be a very good source to get info on that sort of thing.
I am sure it's possible, if you can do it as surface travel you can do it by bike.
Do you have any idea on when you're planning to start? Do you have the funds to finance it?
Sounds like a very interesting project - would make an excellent documentary. I'd love to hear more about your plans.

I have heard of a Dutch couple cycling from The Netherlands to Australia. I think they did it in about two years. It is possible but you need quite a lot of time and cycling through Asia is not without risks. Traffic is, to say it neathly, unrespectful for cyclists. But also stone throwing children and dogs can be a pain (the dogs are not throwing stones but they might bite and give you some nice infection, maybe even Rabies). I think its pure adventure. I think you may die in peace if you have done it. You had a good life and you can be proud;)
