JHarms has indicated that this thread is about Australia

I will in Australia around 10 March and will be staying for 18 days. I enjoy the outdoors and will be backpacking the entire time. Other than scuba diving and whitewater rafting while I there what else must I do/see? Any suggestion for diving and rafting would also be nice. By the way if any of you come to Charlotte, NC, I am a whitewater guide at the US National Whitewater Center, ask for me to be your guide at raft check-in and I will be sure your have a great time! Thanks for your help.

Well I am not sure how long you will be here and then NZ. Also whereabouts are you entering..Sydney? Brisbane?. Firstly for scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef is by far the best and I would try and get up to Airlie Beach in an area called the Whitsundays Passage. Then get on a day cruise on a yacht or boat that will allow you to stop and scuba. Some absolutely breathtaking stuff and Airlie Beach itself is a great place to just lie back and enjoy the wonderful beach, islands and climate. White water rafting is best done in NZ but if you can get to Tasmania, another Australian State, it has white water rafting also. I think if you put ""White water rafting in Australia" in the Google Australia search engine it will help you more than I can. Have fun but you are going to be very busy in only 18 days. Weather should be fine particularly in Queensland and NSW. Tasmania will be cooler as will NZ. :)

Tully River is reputedly the very best WWR river in both Oz and NZ. Tully is just south of Innisfail and north of Townsville; just next door to Mission Beach from where you could get out to Dunk Island and explore the reef from there. Funny thing, I am booking a WWR session for the 18th of March through - SNIP- where it is $150 for a full day's rafting.
