yoroshikun has indicated that this thread is about China

I'll be traveling through China in less than two weeks, and my current plan has me traveling by rail through Luoyang as well as Datong. The Longmen Caves are just outside of Luoyang, and the Yungang Caves are just outside of Datong, and I could easily visit them as I travel. But, I don't have much time, and really should only do one? So, has anyone been to either, or both?

If you could only visit one, which one would you suggest? Why?

THANKS A MILLION.

I suggest to visit The Longmen Caves, because the Longmen Caves was first constructed in the Emperor Taihe's Reign of the Northern Wei Dynasty (488 AD). The construction lasted many years from the Wei Dynasty through the Northern Qi, Sui, Tang and Song Dynasties etc.
And the traffic to Longme Caves is very convenience。

I know you have already been but wanted to post a reply to this to help other travellers. we have just been to both Yungang and Longman caves.

Longman caves has more caves and is more touristy but most of the cave carvings have been damaged. There were two huge really impressive sections but I would suggest if you had to choose to go to Yungang caves. There are fewer caves but the carvings are all nearly complete and the caves are more detailed and far superior to Longman. There is even colour in Yungang. There are gardens in Longman that are nice to visit.
