I have just got a working holiday visa for new zealand and someone told me that if u dont get a national insurance number u will pay 40% tax. Can anyone help me and tell me if its true and if it is how to get one.Thanks

You need a tax file number which you get from the tax office in oz, iirc you can even apply online but not until you're in oz. Its free anf they post it to you.

The OP is asking about NZ, not Australia. For NZ the Inland Revenue website is located here, and you'll need to get an IRD number - details here on the Inland Revenue website.
