Can anyone put my mind at rest as to whether I need to arrange a visa for Indonesia before I arrive or can I get one on arrival? I will be flying into somewhere (not sure where yet though...). Also, do I need proof of onward travel?

I have not been to Indonesia, but the Indonesian visa requirement page is pretty clear. Citizens of 52 countries, UK & US citizens included, can get a 30 day visa on arrival for $25. Have a great time.

Hi Claire

Just bring $25 (US) with you and when you go through immigration in Indonesia you will be asked for the fee and the visa is placed into your passport - no hassles no worries!

Doh! Didn't think to look on the requirements page... Thanks guys...

Also, does anyone know if I need proof of onward travel? Probably going to go overland, so no can do...

Hi Claire,
We just got back from Bali last week.
We took $50 USD (for wife and self) for the entry visas and wasn't asked for any evidence of onward travel, and I would be very surprised if any tourists are asked for such a thing.
The visa is for 30 days and it states clearly that it cannot be extended.

Enjoy to the MAX.

Bali is fantastic, although there seemed to be very few tourists.
Most guests at our hotel were either Japanese, Chinese or Russian.
That certainly expanded the buffet breakfast range!!!

Sounds great! Thanks for the info. I'm glad you had a good time!

Hi Claire

If you're arriving by land/sea you need to double-check that your port of arrival is capable of issuing visas on arrival as not all of them are - we tried to get a ferry to Tanjung Pinang on Bintan a few years ago and discovered that it wasn't possible and ended up getting an expensive taxi across the island from another port.

Hi again - sorry, just noticed that you say that you're flying so should be OK - however have left info in for others.

Oh this just from official info, or have you actually been asked at one of the ports? Reason I ask is other SE Asia countries technically require it, but never ask...and I was hoping Indonesia would be the same...? I'm arriving on the 9th April and plan to travel overland back to Bangkok or will get a last minute only have a flight home on 15th May for proof of anything.
